Abraham Adingra was born in 1933 in Adou, Africa. He is the Prince of Kinjabo, which is located on the Ivory Coast. Adingra studied philosophy at the University of Abidjan. His love of art and African culture prompted him to study at the art academy of Marseilles. He wanted to find a way to express the culture and religion of Africa. He adapted cubism, but developed it into an expression of African life. He uses a thick and irregular sand texture to cover a burlap canvas. His African themes and bright colors repeat ancient stories. His works have been shown in Europe, Africa, and the United States; and in 1978, he won the prestigious Laurent prize for art in New York.
