Maurice LeMaître was born on October 17, 1929 at Gouy sur Bellone, not far from Calais in France. At an early age, he demonstrated an interest in art. Maurice LeMaître has been strongly influenced by the 19th century artists Pissaro and Sisley.
LeMaître most enjoys painting the regions of Brittany and Provence. He depicts the lush greenery of northern France as well as the dry dusty hills of the southern part of the country. As a result of his exposure to 19th century French impressionists, he developed a style where he paints in a loose and free manner. His strokes are almost linear as he blocks in trees, grasses, distant hills, and flowing rivers. His art is compared to the best of Europe's impressionistic painters.
LeMaître's art has been exhibited at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. He has enjoyed a highly successful one-man show and group exhibits throughout Europe and the United States, including Paris, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit, Barbizon and Geneva. LeMaître has won numerous awards and is a member of the l'Association des Paysagistes Français.
