Sylvie Marcel was born in 1960 in Marseille, located in southern France. Her love of painting led her to study at the Beaux Art school in Toulouse after receiving a "Licence de Lettres." Her work has been characterized as a somewhat naïve style, employing a profusion of charming and delightful details. Her paintings reflect a time past - little girls with big ribbons playing in the street, and wonderful old shops full of painted miniature treasures. She creates a nostalgic feeling by using both vivid and contrasting subdued colors.

This young artist has already exhibited in many shows and salons. In 1986, her work was shown at the Chapelle des Pénitents Bleus in La Ciotat, France as well as in the cultural center of Marseille. In 1987 her work was again acclaimed at the Salle des Marronniers in Aubagne, Le Salon d'Art Naïf in Marseille, and the Atelier Libre in Lavandou. Since 1989, her work has been exclusively shown at the Galerie "Univers des Arts" in Aubagne. In 1992, Dussard Art Gallery of Homburg, Germany featured her work in a major exhibit. Praised by art critics and favored by the public, Sylvie Marcel is one of our most promising artists.
